Paul Thomas Anderson has established with Punch Drunk Love that he is clearly one of the best American writer directors of his generation.
Where his two previous films seemed very much cut from the same cloth, Punch Drunk Love is something entirely different.
To date he's taken two years between projects, so hopefully 2004 will provide a new PT Anderson project.

Out of all the ridiculous films that you gave five stars too (i.e. Shaun of the Dead), the one film that doesn't get stamped with your overused rating is the most remarkable film out of your stock.

I didn't "get" this movie the first time. After multiple viewings it grew on me and I really cherish it now. Paul Thomas Anderson is one of the greatest directors alive, and it's evident he has a real love for cinema, versus someone like Paul W.S. Anderson, who is a talentless hack.
