Nice review, David.
This film is definitely all about the stylized visuals, and effects play. Lopez, to her credit, is a good actress. A horrible singer, but a good actress. While it is a tough pill to swallow (buying her as a therapist of any kind), her beauty serves as a welcome escape from the world of ugly the viewer is forced to skip through.
However, I do disagree in regards to Vaughn's performance. Granted, there didn't seem to be much there to begin with; Vaughn just never seemed to ease into his role as he so effortlessly has in just about every other movie he's done.
D'Onofrio by far turns in the strongest performance, obviously relishing this role of a psychotic seriel killer with a penchant for torture, and postmortem foreplay.
Great escapism for those not hung up on frivolous stuff like plot, intelligence, or believability.
