Good review, though I didn't like this movie. I think the movie's greatest failure is trying to convince us that someone who looks like Hilary Duff would be the most unpopular girl in school. I didn't buy it. Someone who is as pretty as Duff and makes straight "A"s would actually be one of the most popular girls in school.

The thing is, no matter what someone looks like, if they fail to make the concerted effort to meet people they won't be popular. Maybe that explains her social status, since she seemed mostly fine with just hanging out with her cowboy hat wearing friend. After all, it was clearly evident she had a confidence problem as a result of being constantly put down by her stepmother and stepsisters.

On another note, the film has actually done quite well at the box office, having made over 40 million on a budget of 19 million. Who'd of thought that 'A Cinderella Story' would end up making more than 'Catwoman', a 100 million dollar superhero film. I bet Warner Bros., the distributor of both films, didn't believe that would be the case.

I see what you're saying. I'm just going by my experience in HS. Someone like Sam would have certainly been on the Honor Society, and in my HS, that was an elite club, even moreso than being a cheerleader or playing on a team. Membership in the Honor Society practically gauranteed a level of popularity, whether you were a recluse or outgoing.

I have nothing against Hilary though. I'm looking forward to "Raise Your Voice."

That's different than my HS where people in the Honor Society were often picked on and the only friends they had were other people in the Honor Society. Of course, my HS wasn't very good; it was severely overcrowded. Oftentimes there weren't enough textbooks for every student in a class with class sizes nearing 40-50 students, depending on the class. Thank goodness college is different in that people actually want to be there; aren't there just because their parents made them go.
