You say that the "clothes stay on", yet isn't one of the reasons the film is rated R nudity/sexual situations? Just wondering if maybe Sony is lying to the public like they did with the DVD release of 'No Good Deed', which it was stated on the back of the DVD that it was 1:85 anamorphic widescreen but once you put the movie in it is actually full-screen only.

No nudity or sexual situations that I saw. Maybe they submitted a different version to get the R rating. There's not even that much foul language though some of the gore could have scored an R.

I wonder if Sony will turn this into a direct-to-video franchise ala Cruel Intentions, which just had its second DTV entry released a week ago. I think that Starship Troopers has more promise as such a franchise than 'Intentions' which just recycles the same plot again and again.

On a related note, if Sony/Columbia does make 'Starship Troopers' a franchise, will Tippett direct the others as well and will he be allowed a larger budget or one on par with what he was given for this film?

I'm not touching this garbage with a three foot pole, I loathed the first film.

It's really a shame Sony went this route. I however can see why considering Starship Troopers first outing to was a financial dissapointment. The first movie was genuine, the actors seemed to enjoy playing their parts and were convincing. My God, ST2 is the polar opposite. It's soooo cheesy, it's obvious the "troopers" (at least in the beginning scenes) didn't quite "feel" what their character was supposed to feel. Sure, they yelled and roared and shot their guns but they obviously weren't in the part. That brings up another point, the guns, the firearms in this movie are a real let down. They sound tiny, underpowered, and look stupid to boot. What's really hilarious is the fact that Brenda Strong is cast in this movie as well. You might remember her as Captain Deladier in the first ST and yeah, she was smushed by a door in a fleet ship which subsiquently blew up. Well, she's back....as Sgt. Dede Rake your hardass female warrior...sigh. If only they got Paul V. to direct and spent the same amount of money on this as the first. If we see a ST3 I hope and pray Sony does it right.
