Because it is witty, funny, and sometimes pretty scary. It's a lot like the movie "Scream" - the characters are sort of self-aware. The IDEA is nothing special, just like Scream's wasn't, but the outcome is very good because it manages to avoid many cliches and ends up spoofing the franchise.
