Never let Hollywood ever near social commentary like this, especially when it's about Hollywood. I read that in a review of 15 Minutes and I agree.
For me, this is one of De Niro's worst. And he rarely makes bad movies.
I agree with Greg.
This is just one contrary movie. And they marketed De Niro all over it. Little did we all know the "surprise" in store less than halfway through the movie.

i disagree with you both, i thought this was a higly charged, fast-paced flick with attitude. it is authorative filmmaking and it never slowed down. this outweighs the cliches for a nice popcorn flick.

I liked some parts, but overall it seemed to have no purpose. It borrowed from a lot of other movies (some of which I have admittedly not seen and some I have), and its message about the media is being delivered by the same place that creates all the media in the first place!
The message was too thick. The part towards the end where (SPOILER ALERT!) the criminal tells Burns, "I'll just plead insanity!" made me laugh. America's system of justice may be flawed, but it's not that easy to get off the hook for murder. Hollywood should be the last thing to recognize this.
I can see how this may have been great, but to me, it was just contrary. It went against violence yet it was one of the grittiest films I've ever seen. Its message is too heavy-handed and the movie itself didn't impress me.
That's just me, though.
BTW, does anyone else think De Niro is *the* actor right now? Pacino's close but he's been slinking into flop-zone lately...unlike De Niro. I loved Meet the Parents and The Score.

BTW, Greg...De Niro never played Scarface...Pacino did! :)
That's sort of a vital fact of film history; I can change it if you'd like.

I've seen some of the films. I've also read reviews that mention this.
There are some good ones on RottenTomatoes.com.
IMDb has movie connections listed but that's usually for direct references to other movies.
