No, Kubrick is not a household name to the average person anymore. Maybe he is to the movie buffs like you and I, but how many homes do you go to where the teenagers discuss the philosophies of Kubrick's newest movie, and the adults discuss how they are eagerly anticipating "Eyes Wide Shut" on TV tonight?
This doesn't happen. Kids don't care about the classics, they just go to see the newest Fast and Furious sequel.
Do you honestly believe most people (NOT including movie buffs) know who Kubrick is anymore?
Er...no.
I talk to my friends about famous movies and directors and they don't really care at all. They just talk about Vin's newest movie.
Such a sad world we live in.

Let's be honest guys, when 2001 was premiered half if not more of the critics gave negative reviews to the film. It's not as if only today we're so dumb not to appreciate it, it's simply that it has always been a difficult movie for all audiences. Heck even I admit I was very confused by the last 20 minutes the first time I saw it.

I dunno, seems like if you could describe the film as "boring" and "silly," then five stars was not the rating to give it. It's a movie, not an indisputable fact; if you didn't like it, you didn't like it. Whether or not it influenced films that came later isn't really relevant to how much you enjoyed it, all by itself.
(P.S. I myself do love '2001,' very much.)

Hello!I have the same opinion with you about this film:Though this film is hard to understand and many people don't like it,it's still one of the greatest films.But frankly speaking,I can't find deep comments about this film.It doesn't like a review,just like your little thoughts.Oh,I can't express my feeling in English,maybe your altitude to one film.
